I think this is a great product and a solid value. I wouldn't say it frees up a port because the Bluetooth adapter takes up a USB port that the mouse would get, but it is overall more efficient use of the port since the headset and/or speaker, and other Bluetooth peripherals, can connect at the same time. It's great to be able to use all my newer Bluetooth peripherals with this old laptop, and especially handy to be able to just press the Bluetooth switcher button on the bottom of the mouse without having to use the USB mouse every time I want to pull out the laptop for something. I just popped the adapter and directions back into the packaging and stuck it in one of the flaps inside my laptop carrier case. So it's reusable as a sort of carrying-case. It can be left in all the time, but the plastic packaging that it comes in is made with perforations at the back that allow you to open a flap and pull out the printed guide and the adapter. It's about the same size as a Logitech unifying adapter.

I played some music and it sounded very rich and full - very good quality for a wireless connection.Īs for size/convenience, the adapter is smaller than my thumbnail. I will say, though, that even though the headset took a while to connect, the sound quality is excellent. So I'm inclined to think it may be the headset itself, since it's now a few years old, and because the mouse and speaker had connected right away and without issue.

The headset did eventually connect, but it still took about 3-4 minutes.

I thought it might be a driver issue, so I went to Kinivo's website (they give you the link in the packaging) and downloaded and installed the driver direct from Kinivo. Lastly, I disconnected the speaker and paired a Bluetooth audio-only headset for listening.Įven though the speaker paired up right away, for some reason, the headset took a long time. Once the mouse was up and running, I paired and connected a small remote Bluetooth speaker that I have, also without a hitch.

I then installed the Logitech Options software for the mouse (MX Master 2s) and it paired up right away. Once I snapped the dongle into place, Windows recognized it and loaded a driver, and turned Bluetooth on automatically. Before installing, I upgraded my laptop to the latest version of Windows (using Windows Update). You just open the package and plug it in. The packaging and installation are very straightforward. So I ordered this small Kinivo Bluetooth adapter (also called a "dongle") and I am very pleased with it.

I still have the wired peripherals and USB wifi mouse tucked away to use when needed or for backup, but now I prefer the Bluetooth. But it's now a decade later, and like most people, I have gradually upgraded the lion's share of my other peripherals. Sometimes I used wired headphones.īluetooth has been around a while, but I tend to be frugal, wanting to get as much use as possible out of the things I buy. The on-board speakers on this laptop are also very poor quality, so I used a small wired set to augment them. I never worried about it, since I mostly used it for a second PC at home, and when I took it traveling, it was only for web browsing, email and typing up documents. I have a 10-year old Toshiba Satellite, budget Model C875D-57330, that didn't come with Bluetooth on board.
